Latest on Yosemite Valley closure:

https://www.sierrawave.net/yosemite-valley-to-remain-closed-indefinitely/

From the incident report:

https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5927/

Locally, in the Owens Valley, the smoke is still present in the valley, but for one brief period on Sunday. Above about 9,000 feet the skies are clear, but this might change, depending on wind patterns. I hope to hike up to Bishop Pass tomorrow and will report on conditions. The town of Bishop is flooded with hikers who have bailed from the JMT, because of the smoke.

Thanks for the report, Bob. We are scheduled to spend a week in June Lake starting Aug. 22. I am watching the Gull Lake Resort and June Mountain webcams. Most days, they are fairly clear, but smoke is obvious on others. I guess it depends on the prevailing winds. I am debating whether to cancel the trip and eat $300 in airline ticket charges or to say "damn the torpedoes" and go anyway. It will be a last minute call.

They are saying the Ferguson Fire should be fully contained by August 15.

I live here in Oakhurst just 20 miles away from the fire.

Don't cancel! Go!

Wow! Does that mean Yosemite may actually re-open this year? Sure would be nice!

South Fork of Bishop Creek to Bishop Pass was clear today. JMT hikers reported smoke at Evolution Valley a couple of days ago and north of Muir Pass.
