We got up at 1am in Crabtree Meadows to catch the sunrise on Whitney. Sunrise didn’t take place though due to a band of thick clouds on the horizon in the east (and we would have been late to the summit by a few minutes anyways).

However, there was this magical light phenomena on the opposite side. I’d seen it before once or twice. The sun rays seemed to converge in the wrong direction. I had to google it. It is called anticrepuscular rays (not that I’d know how to pronounce it…). The Range of Light always finds some new ways to surprise… Just magical.

This pano of 4 shots showing Hitchcock and Guitar Lakes was taken early August between Trailcrest and the summit near the needles at about 14k ft.
