I'm happy enough with my Garmin Fortrex 101 new from DrivenGPS for $80. Pretty old technology. Uses a COM1 serial cable (bought separately for $15 from The GPS Store) to connect to your computer! No maps - just coordinates with ability to upload waypoints and routes with opensource free software. Lightweight. Lots of people probably want to upgrade to newer technology, so you might be able to find them used for cheap.
