Like Tom, I live nearby in Inyokern, so I have easy access to some great hiking.

Unlike Tom's truck though, mine does go south occasionally. I love Baldy as a winter climb once there's enough snow/ice to do it with crampons. And, I like Jacinto and Big Iron because they're butt-kickers. However, I'm usually headed in/out under the cover of darkness, so can avoid most of the heavy traffic.
My hat's off to those of you who live/commute in SoCal. I don't know how you do it.
