DUG..... I don't think there's a doctor on earth who could tell you what you should or shouldn't do :-)
Good luck on the hike. Steve's right. If you can get in early and let the antibiotics get going. I know my sore throat a couple of weeks back started feeling better within hours of taking the antibiotics.
