The road is usually closed below Barcroft Station; it makes the hike to the summit a bit longer. Go slow in your 2wd; there are a few rough spots before the gate. There is ample parking at the gate.
I want to drive as far as I can comfortably get in a Corvette and then to ride a MTB the rest of the way. I don't care much for washboards. Sounds like I'd end up leaving the car at the end of the paved road.
