I can see the potential for confusion. I've never thought of it by this name, because it is not a crest.
I've thought of it as the JMT-Whitney Trail junction.
"lower trail crest" is an oxymoron.
it is also factually incorrect and misleading, especially for those who have never been to this site and who may look to this site for accurate information before striking out for the top.
it is what it is - the junction of the john muir trail and the mt whitney trail.
