Those who know me (and you know who you are) know that I am somewhat of a hard case, and definitely not one prone to much in the way of introspection -- especially things that do not involve life and death. With that said, I have this to say:

1. Unstable people are that way before they walk out the door (think: McCandless, Grizzley Man) Solitude & high stress situations serve to accelerate the inevitable.

2. Those who "turn away" from society are usually the lonliest of all, so their quest to "turn away" is usually a ruse.

Solitude for me is a brisk dayhike spent making up stories to tell the friends & family awaiting my return.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.
