This would be a deviation from the Snow Creek trail, which begins at the Mirror Lake TH. I believe the departure at the bridge up Tenaya is officially "strongly discouraged" although apparently not forbidden. I have read several accounts of ventures up and down the entire canyon, which is also known as the Bermuda Triangle of Yosemite.
