Four Mile Trail: Will be closed at about 2.6 mile due to treacherous conditions (icy) since that portion of the trail is still shaded this time of year. There is a gate that will be closed. There will be snowpack on some of the switchbacks before you reach this gate.
I hope they have changed the web site message. I found the gate locked
open today, and the only patch of snow left had melted back so the trail was about 3 feet wide there. When that patch is full, it would be treacherous, where a slip would lead to a quick fall over a 30-foot vertical drop.
Interestingly, one pair of hikers got word yesterday that the trail was still closed, while another group heard it was open. Information takes time to propagate among the information rangers, I suppose.
I'd have some pictures (not from the snow) but I can't find the usb cable to connect the camera to the computer.
There were over a hundred tourists at the Glacier Point. Only about a dozen had hiked up from the Valley.
