Unfortunately, people cannot transfer their permits to you. You could potentially join another group, but most of the time that does not occur.
However, if you come out that week, I am sure you will get the permits. There are always cancellations and no-shows that become available at the Visitor Center.
Check last year's
Unused Permits page. You can see that even in August, there were always permits available, except on some Fridays. So come out, spend some time at Horseshoe Meadows acclimating, come down in the mornings to wait in line for a permit. You WILL get them!
If you check the
Recreation.gov website in the week or so before you come out, there are likely to be a few permits showing up there, too.
