What Kevin said. I boldfaced the most important part. Years past, I would often watch forecasts right up to leaving home, and carry the tent in the car. At the trailhead, viewing the lack or presence of any clouds, AND aware of the forecasts, we would leave the tent in the car for a quick one or two night trip.
