Tollermom, so great to hit the trail as you, Gina and Dan passed by. You were impressively exuberant. smile Here's your great picture at Trail Crest.

Glad you finally got your text to post. Good trick finding the HTML setting. It was some curly apostrophes ( ’) and long-dashes (–) causing the problem. Notepad/Courier doesn't flag the curly apostrophe.

You apparently missed my tirades about not treating water, (and I won't expound here), but here's a link to the latest: Main Mount Whitney Trail, 7/8/14 solo day hike. Not filtering saves time and energy.

You are pretty well acclimated based on living at 4500' and working at 6300'. You got a taste of the lack of appetite, though. That's how it hits me, too. Juicy fruit is always great when you can't eat anything else!

When I descended, I found what I think was the most probable spot J. Likely missed the trail. Just above Trailside Meadow, the trail makes a U-turn switchback. People going both up and down miss the turn (there was a small step up, and a really well beaten path), and continuing straight takes them out on the nose where I am pretty sure he fell. I'll post in the Likely thread about it one if these days. I built a wall of rocks at the spot, in hopes it would stop everyone from missing the turn.
