Haven't tried this but I've used something similar that folds flat. It's a bowl instead of a bottle that I use for backpacking trip. My first concern would be durability but your review seems to address that and it doesn't appear too heavy. Only thing stopping me from buying one now is the price. :-) MSR bladders have worked well for me as well as the old Gatorade bottles you've mentioned.
