Last weekend, I hiked to Tamarack Lake to climb Triple Divide Peak with two friends. We were sitting around camp finishing dinner and getting ready for bed when a girl came hiking up the trail alone. She looked to be maybe 125 pounds, but she was moving fast and carrying a backpack that looked heavier than mine. She and her friends had just hiked 15-16 miles, and one of her friends was out of shape and couldn’t keep up. She asked us to watch her pack while she headed back down to help her straggling friend.

About 30 minutes later, she showed up again, carrying another pack, and still hiking fast. A guy with a pack was with her. It was getting dark, and they asked about potential campsites. A few minutes later, another girl arrived. A guy without a pack followed behind. They regrouped, and headed for the campsites closer to the lake. The first girl left with her own pack over one shoulder and the guy’s pack over the other shoulder. One tough girl!
