Collateral effect of the snow in 2011 was that the day the switchers cleared, the InterAgency Visitor Center was mobbed with walk-ins mid-week. People who had canceled earlier permitted trips as well as people from the west side, especially the High Sierra Trail, who came up against obstacles such as snow bridges *over* the trail. If we get the same pattern this year, expect walk-ups to be easy to get as long as you can handle the snow, but much scarcer than usual as soon as the cables clear.
