Whitney used to be the goal of the strong and brave. Now it's just another trophy to hang on their I Love Me Wall, or a selfi to send to their friends, complete with a beautiful mountain as the back-drop.

People who never expect to return to Whitney, once it's been checked off their bucket list, are less likely to leave no sign of them having been there.

It might make interesting (but politically incorrect) reading to do a study of the ethnic groupings that are more likely to trash the wilderness - or anywhere else for that matter.
