Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Mount Whitney Hike: Spot or Satellite Phone

I will be doing Mt Whitney as a day hike on Sept. 2nd week. Since there is no cell coverage, I am planning to rent a satellite phone or SPOT. Does anybody has any experience with either of these devices?
Which one is better? How is the coverage for Satellite phone and SPOT on the main Whitney trial?
