This thread is a follow up to Bob West's suggestion, from
another thread, that the Whitney Forum post more safety information related to mountaineering on steep snow/ice. Please feel free to contribute information and comments targeted for anyone climbing/descending the chute on the main trail (instead of the switchbacks), or the Mountaineer's Route. It can also apply to conditions where one has to traverse somewhat level terrain but through slippery conditions with dangerous exposure below - which often happens on the back side just before the final ascent, and near trail crest. These conditions can present at any time of the season, but mostly occur in the shoulder seasons (spring/fall) and, of course, in the winter.
Please feel free to propose additional links and comments.
