Perhaps you misread, the page title is "Inyo National Forest has reopened most of John Muir Wilderness, part of Ansel Adams Wilderness"
This means Whitney has reopened.
Please note that the wildfire risk in the region is still very high--Bishop has not had any measurable precipitation since April (three more days will be the longest ever dry spell). All fire sources, including camp stoves and backpacking stoves, are banned outside of developed recreation sites (read: campgrounds). Please be safe!
