Folks, I wanted to get a thread started for the eventual Whitney TR from catpappy, the other board member from Atlanta. He flew into Vegas today and plans to spend a couple of nights acclimating on Mt. Charleston before he's joined by a buddy and his wife. I believe they start up the MMWT Monday for a multi-nighter.
I had the opportunity to join John for a training hike a couple of weekends ago and, while he's been plagued with plantar fasciitis all summer and hasn't trained nearly as well as he wanted, he's one tough, experienced backpacker and should see the summit on Wednesday (I believe). He through-hiked the AT years ago, and this is his third trip to Whitney and the Sierra in recent years. Dude knows his hiking.
I just wanted to give a big "good luck" shout out to John and advise you folks he's out there ('cuz he's just not the type to write a "Here I come!" kinda post). Several of you may have met him on one of Doug's group hikes in recent years.
