Permit reservations are not transferable, but you have a good chance of picking up some cancellations if you call the Inyo NF Wilderness Permit office (it may take several attempts). You also have a good chance of getting a no-show permit if you show up early at the Visitors Center.
Are you saying that your return date is fixed so you can only add one day at the beginning? (Overnight Permits can be used for trips up to 14 days; only the entry date is critical).
