For those interested in the details of what goes in a stretcher rescue, look here: 2010-11-06 Stretcher Practice

About 40 people from four Southern California MRA teams got together for a joint practice Saturday. We were divided, mixed, and dispensed to four separate problem areas. The object was work together, integrating each others' gear and procedures on a common problem.

These were not dangerous or highly exposed problems; the goal was to go through the motions on a vertical cliff of at least 25 feet height. The motions consisted of lowering a stretcher and attendant to the victim, treating a simulated simple injury, and then raising both to a safe location. But the equipment and technique are the same as if it were on the face of Mt. Whitney.

Reminds me of the time in 1974 we did a PR demo in Century City. We rigged a Tyrolean traverse between two buildings on the plaza, and ran a stretcher back and forth across it. Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures.

We hung a sign from the stretcher; I've forgotten what it said.
