If I were Mousie, I woulda been a little scared seeing all of those boulders on the road!

I think that Chick-on is going show-shoing in Yosemite this weekend; I will bee sure to pass on some recent post-storm pictures (Chick-on has both Face Book & his own Picasa site).

Wow, Mousie sure gets around....Colorado to Whitney Portal is quite a distance. My parents use to drive my brothers and I to Colorado from Anaheim twice a year to see our Grandparents (thank goodness for the Washinton Tunnel in winter - the passes can be treacherous with snow and ice on the road). Sometimes we'd take our cat with us to our cabin in Colorado so kitty could chase the mousies out of the cabin.

Please keep up the Mousie travel stories. I enjoy reading Mousie's adventures and seeing Mousie's pictures on the road. I guess we don't know if Mousie is male or female, kind of like Pat on Saturday Night Live.

Take care of Mousie and watch out for kitty.

Mousie was up at the Portal again today, a little higher. Just acclimating, checking snow conditions. We're going in all the way tomorrow, summit on Saturday, two winter camps on the way up.

facebook page for Chick-on? hmm - I don't even have one so Mousie won't get one either grin

Is Mousie heading up the MR tomorrow? Any other buddies coming along? How warm was it?

60 degrees at the Portal yesterday. Warmer today.

We are heading up to the portal later today to get a head start Friday (road closed, rangers driving up and down to hand out tickets, so it's a 4 mile trip to the trailhead). Tomorrow we expect to get some company to go up to one of the high lakes on the MR, as far as snow conditions allow. After noon, things get pretty soft and avalanche risk becomes a factor once things warm up. Saturday we'll do the rest with a light pack, maybe start 3-4am to use good solid snow in the chute, and to beat the weather that is going to change around noon on Saturday. We'll head back down asap same day and spend one night in Lone Pine, then 2000 miles to get back east again.

Mousie is back down from the mountain - should have gone a day earlier. This is as high as he got. Far too windy on Saturday to safely summit on the MR for this mouse

on he slushy approach below Lower Boyscout Lake

I hope that Mousie did not stay there all night!! (I love his little ride along perch)

Those lenticular sunset clouds on the WPSMB are just gorgeous. I was further up 395 around Carson Valley, and I saw the same types of clouds and thought that you guys must be taking in some windy conditions (I hope that Mousie has seat belts)

Mousie didn't have to stay outside. He loves the triangular tent pockets. The wind was very gusty, but we were anchored so well, it took 15 minutes of ice axe action to get the snow anchors out of the frozen snow.

the colors in the clouds only lasted for a minute - after that it was all about hot fluids and wag bags in 40mph wind gusts. Mousie refused to use the wag bag.

Beautiful dawn picture, Fishmonger. And good luck with the drive home!

The story about the pad, coat and lid blowing away reminds me of several weeks ago when I was snow camping. I had my closed-cell foam pad rolled up and ready to pack when a gust of wind sent it rolling away -- on the flat! I went charging after it in foot-deep snow. Fortunately the wind died down and it only went 40 yards before I got to it. Had the wind been steady, I would have had to wave farewell to it. frown Fortunately that occurred on the morning we went home. If it had been before that and the wind had been much stronger, it could have turned into an emergency.

Burro Boy!! Nice to see you! This thread is mostly a celebration of our "Fuzzy" Friends, so they get all of the good pictures, and the humans take second banana wink

Wow, nice! How long did it take Chick-ON to snowshoe all the way back to ML? I've always wanted to go see, but Half Dome and the JMT has pulled me northward every time.

It was a Fri-Mon trippy....Bill-e-g and crew tend to make it out to the lesser traveled destinations. Last year's trip to Starr King produced spectacular just-snowed pictures.

Two days in. The long way in, going a ways north of the very boring section of the JMT to get nice views
of what I would call the Clouds Rest "massif" and dropping into Echo Valley from the high trail, avoiding the
Bunnell Avalanche and switchbacks (did those last yr). Gave us lots of time to enjoy and go check out the
HSC and Ranger Cabin near Merced Lake.
Day 3 we dropped down into the canyon from the high trail at the Bunnell bridges and camped in LYV after exploring the
north side (another spot where the trail location is not located for views).
Bunch more pix here if interested:

Enjoy
