I can understand it. Extremely tired after 20 miles of hiking already, and two more miles to go.... the trail seems endless. Counting the switchbacks might help.


I never count - counting always makes things take much longer, especially for the first 90% of the counting.

Well, I found that section rather interesting when walking down at 1 am under a full moon with a delirious day hiker. wink

The first time I came down at night I was with my 65 year old aunt who has RP (retinitis pigmentosa). RP causes tunnel vision (and eventually complete blindness). Anyway, during the day she did ok navigating the trail, but at night she had no idea where the steps were. So I ended up having to illuminate all of the obstacles on the trail and describe them to her. I think we made enough noise to warn any bears that we were in the vicinity.

A delirious day hiker could be a bit of a challenge....
