So who else is going up on the 4th? Wouldn't it be nice to know quite a few of you when passing or being passed in my case!

Congrats on getting a permit for the 4th of July! Should I add you to the Mt. Whitney Hiking Dates calendar? And I saw your post asking about a high elevation campground... Horseshoe Meadows! 10,000 ft, no reservations, nice flat camping areas. Water supply etc. Good acclimatization area.

Well, I won't be on the trail on the 4th or 5th, but I'll be arriving at the Portal on the 5th for a couple days of R&R, acclimation, and fun before our day hike on the 7th.
One day I'd like to hike the entire John Muir Trail and not leave a single footprint. -Randy Morgenson
