Hello,
I'm planning my JMT for July/August of 2012. I'm planning on a resupply in Le Conte Canyon via Bishop by mule. If anyone is interested in splitting a resupply cost please let me know. The cost is $600- for 150lbs. So, the more who are in, the cheaper it gets. I am open to the drop location, however, the Le Conte Ranger Station seems about right. We could also do above Independence.

Mike

Migolito, welcome to the WhitneyZone forum!

We have had several threads lately discussing a resupply. In fact this one was for about the same place:
JMT - food supply at Bishop pass Tr. Jn & Kearsarge Lake

And another:   Resupply Cache

If you plan to be resupplied by Raindow Pack station, near South Lake, you'd better contact them. Their corral and tack barn was destroyed by heavy snow and an avalanche. They've just finished digging everything out, and are preparing to rebuild the destroyed structures. They hope to be ready for full operation by the end of June.

However, it is not likely that any packers will be able to cross Bishop Pass this month. There was still an average of 6 feet of snow at the Bishop Lake sensor station, which is about 600 feet below the top of the pass. The South Lake trailhead, as of today, still has a little snow. Mid July looks about right for stock access over the pass. It's going to be a short mule packing season this year in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

600 bucks for 150 lbs to the trail sounds like an ok deal if you can split it up. How did you arrange it?

Its a little too far north for me ( too soon after MTR), but at Kearsarge jct. (above Independence) I may be interested. That's closer to Onion Valley than Le Conte is to South Lake, so maybe the deal should be better there too? See the discussion at the link supplied above.

At Kearsarge, I could go in on it for maybe 10 lbs and a fair share of the bucks if the dates match up. I have invitations out for people to join me for sections, so the weight -- and a fair share -- could increase. I will be doing a N to S, starting maybe last week in July, 20 days or so on the trail, putting me at the Kearsarge trail jct about Aug 10. Some flex on the date of course, but I want to be at the Portal by the 15th or so. Feel free to PM.

PS, sorry about hijacking your other JMT thread to talk about food, but to me its more of a challenge than gear, so I welcome this thread.

Salty:
You mentioned high calorie light wt dry foods you prepare yourself in the other thread. Can you PM me details if it is out of line here? I am a vegetarian and did find some at Trader Joe but no where near your weight/calorie ratios mentioned.
We are moving our dates from July 20th start at TM to August 4 or 5 due to unusual snow conditions this year. I planned 4 resupplies to carry only 5 day food and gas and keeping the pack wt below 30lbs.
South bound from TM to WP - in around 21 days.
Appreciate info on your dry foods.
Thanks!
Krishna
