Edit: New thread spawned from the original:   CVAC Pods for acclimatization?...

It is a big blur

I think we need a new term, specifically for human adjustment to MW, which includes the environmental factors of altitude, temperature, blue grouse aggression, alpenglow mesmerization effect, vertical exposure perception, UVA/UVB exposure, ursinal nutrient competition stress, and cold water immersion/injestion reaction. In addition, the process has been observed to include socio-environmental factors of wag-bag revulsion threshold, summit fever syndrome, Mooseburger metabolic capacity, population density tolerance, permit process anxiety disorder, alpine start circadian rhythm disruption (with and without complications of jet-lag) Diamox misprescription effect and GEOR (Generalized Aesthetic Overload Response).

Nice. Captures the whole range of factors. Now we need a term for the adjustment process. Whitclimbitization. Something like that.

ursinal nutrient competition stress - that is hilarious - better take that bearcan for antimarmotism as well.

I laughed my a$$ off reading this. Hats off to Salty. This was the most creative (and descriptive) thing written on this board about acclimatization, perhaps ever. I wish I was creative enough to think of a good term. There already have been some excellent ones. Hope they keep rolling in.

Let's not forget about the acclimatizing influence of carrying a 9 pound Portal Pancake riding as ballast in our bellies as we chug up the mountain. We might even describe the beginning of acclimatization "Portalization."

Harvey, thanks for talking to Dr. Hacket about this when you see him. I emailed him a link to the studies as well.

AH, this would expand to the broader concept of Portal Store Metabolic capacity, which would also include fermented malt beverages.

Yes, I like "Portalization", at least for the first phase, to say 8500 feet or so. And of course there would be deportalization, which would include additional beverages and and a minimal sequestration period in the aqueous flush and saponification module. Fries with that.

We are keeping the spirit alive

One way - and it is the best - is to summon our mountain back with the help of those who have special powers of doing so, the companions who have climbed with us.
R.L.G. Irving, The Mountain Way, page xvii

Should we transfer this thread to a separate one all by itself so others might see and contribute? Hard to believe it could get any better!

Done!

Belly Ballast is definitely part of the Portalization routine.

Part of my Deportalization process last week included an ichthyoid collection ritual.

How about: "Whitnisteria"? Which might describe one aspect of Whitney Obessive Compulsive Behavior.

you guys are good. No (obvious) hypoxic brain damage.

other than a few 'side' terms, the main ones so far are:

Experientia Monte Whitney Syndrome

Whitclimbitization

HighAltitudeUphillItis

Portalization and Deportalization

Whitnisteria

edit: Bob, I like yours better, but instead of a minor mental illness, some have it major: Whitzophrenia
