Information (you may want to take note of the comments about the Ledge Trail, as it is consistent with comments that I have heard from other sources. An excellent message board for all things Yosemite: Yosemitenews.info :

Sierra Point Trail

(Ledge Trail, i.e. 1.5 mile trail, from Curry Village to Glacier Point)
Yes, I've done it, and yes it's not too bad, but I've seen too many rockfalls cross it in recent years. As far as I'm concerned, it is currently a death trap, and will be until the rock face settles down again.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

Any input on this hike ?

"Hidden Falls No official trail leads to Hidden Falls, where Tenaya Creek cascades 80 feet into pools beloved by locals. But this secret waterfall and swimming hole is well worth the scramble up the boulder-filled canyon–just watch out for falling rocks. From Mirror Lake trailhead (Shuttle Stop #17), hike three miles on maintained trail to the footbridge spanning Tenaya Creek. Look for a faint user trail on the southeast side of the creek, and hike upstream a half-mile to Hidden Falls."

Is the "maintained trail" designated to Mirror Lake? And is it a trail rather than a road?

This would be a deviation from the Snow Creek trail, which begins at the Mirror Lake TH. I believe the departure at the bridge up Tenaya is officially "strongly discouraged" although apparently not forbidden. I have read several accounts of ventures up and down the entire canyon, which is also known as the Bermuda Triangle of Yosemite.

Wherever you go, there you are.

Steve, We did go out to Taft Point for lunch. There was a warning at the trailhead reporting that a mountain lion had been sighted at Dewey point. As for your "backdoor" up to Cathedral Lake, we stopped at the turnout on our way into the park. Your directions to this parking spot were right on. However after a short hike around the turnout I could not find a trail. There was a fair amount of water and snow. If I was alone I would surely have found my way, but with six other people I'm sure they all would not enjoy the uncertainty of the trail.

Well... I wouldn't try to find and follow it if there was too much snow. It is mostly a nicely beaten path when it is dry, but if you have never walked it, in snow, you could wander all over the place.

Here are two pictures from last year:
The parking lot. The "trail" heads directly back (and more to the left) in the picture, behind the vehicle in the center.

I think once you walk 20 or 30 yards, this sign comes into view:

Getting back to the 4 Mile/Panorama Trail, today's Fresno Bee has Marek's take.
