How about silent rattlesnakes? The theory is that the feisty individuals rattle away & tend to be killed by humans (and feral pigs) so that the feisty gene carriers fail to mate... Google "select silent rattlesnakes"

The Santa Catalina Island rattlesnake that has evolved to have no rattle.... something about being able to hunt birds in a bush better if the rattle isn't making noise while they, 're hunting. How frightening.... although, the only encounters I've ever had in the wild with snakes have been either with babies that don't have rattles yet or non-aggressive trail sharing
