Half the charm of climbing mountains is born in visions preceding this experience - visions of what is mysterious, remote, inaccessible.
George Mallory, in
Bruce, CG. The Assault on Mount Everest 1922, page 121

some truth there, but I get tired of counting out bandaids, weighing food, last minute equipment repairs, reservations, etc.
for the Sierra next week.

I just want it done and to be there.

Harvey,
Heidegger had a word in German for this: Dasein, "being there" as when your whole being is thrust into a place and time. I was just 'there' two weeks ago and I already wish I could 'be there' again.
Hope you enjoy your hike!

Gary, I will wave out the window when I fly over Georgia and change planes in Hotlanta.

Marty, I remember a bit of high school German.
Rather than Dasein, maybe Das Ein is 'The One'. Maybe that translates to 'being at one with the event' or simply, 'being there'

Here is a quote perfect for you, now two weeks out:

Once a mountaineer has climbed so high, for the rest of his life he dreams of returning.
Peter Boardman, Sacred Summits page 173

That Boardman quote is so true.

Since spending 6 days on Rainier at the end of May, every day (and night) has been full of mountain plots and dreams - why is my Whitney Labor Day hike taking so long to come around?

Even though it's still more than 4 weeks away, I'm already gathering gear.
