Doug Sr from the Whitney Portal Store alerted people to a new proposal, a bill introduced by Rep. Paul Cook.

Here is the website of the Alabama Hills Stewardship Group

The announcement of the bill is here: AHNSA Legislation Introduced

Map is here     Text of the bill is here

Should be easy to get support from Hollywood on this one, with all those old movies filmed in those hills. No shortage of stars looking for a good cause to promote.

Is the Lone Pine film museum involved? They seem to have connections to the families and descendents of those old actors. Might be a good place to start rolling out the red carpet.

SN, I do not know if this was just rumor, but I was told this summer when I was there that this past weekend's annual Lone Pine festival would be the last, in part because; attendance is falling, original movie people are dead, newer Hollywood types will not show up just for PR but only if they get paid.

Harvey,

A few recent era films that have used this area for part of the movie. Gladiator is one that comes to mind easily...Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott are A-listers.

It is a shame that there is zero congressional support in California, just a CT congressman.

The bill is given almost no chance getting past committee, according to govtrack.us
