4 years in the making, I finally found myself on the summit of Mt. Langley. Day 2 - Other than getting on wrong use trail around lake 4, the trip to the summit essentially went as planned. After returning to camp, seemingly took forever! We discussed the difficulty of this hike vs. the Mt. Whitney Main Trail. We both seemed to think that this route up Langley is just as difficult due to the steepness of the last couple of miles to the summit. Here's a link to the trip report and full gallery: Mt. Langley Backpack, Day 2 – Cottonwood Lake #3 to Summit & Out, August 29 2015 ...and some highlights. Clicking on a photo will bring you to the trip report/photos:

Nice report. Looks like it was mighty windy for you on the summit!
I have a question about the down "quilt". On the Jacks are better site, it looks like a down bag, but you called it a quilt. Can you elaborate?
It looks like a pretty nice bag at under 2 lbs, yet rated for 5-10 F. I'm almost in the market for something like it.
Also, on your 4th picture above, the "dry lake bed above Lake 6", isn't that the optional route some have tried? How did it look to you?

Hi Steve, The quilt will open up a lay flat like a blanket. You have the option of having the foot box sewn up, or it can be secured with snaps or velcro (depending on what company you go with). I'm hoping to get it out to take some detailed pics soon. I've been very happy with it. I thought the route above the dry lake was Navy Pass, but I've been told it's not. http://sangabrielmnts.myfreeforum.org/about6470.htmlThe route looked well used - I was surprised at how many sets of footprints I saw. Looks doable, especially after hiking Banner Peak last weekend

Hey Chevy, There was a post about Navy Pass a little over one year ago where you picked out the "S" shaped route: http://www.whitneyzone.com/wz/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/36456/Searchpage/1/Main/4262/Words/Navy/Search/true/Re:_No_summit_just_to_6th_lake#Post36456 John PS Lovely pics

I don't always post in your threads but always appreciate the beautiful pictures you take! I need to take a class one day and play around but I just hate lugging a big camera along.

PS Lovely pics
Thanks John. I wish I had done more research before going on this trip, but with planning backup trips (not knowing how the smoke is going to be), I neglected to do so. I don't always post in your threads but always appreciate the beautiful pictures you take! I need to take a class one day and play around but I just hate lugging a big camera along. Thanks! What camera do you carry now? What's your bigger camera?

What camera do you carry now? What's your bigger camera? I'm currently using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 which has served well, but looking to upgrade. I purchased a Sony Alpha a5000 last year but found it too bulky. It's great for a hike, but gets in the way when climbing.
