Hoping someone may have an extra day hike permit for 7/24 or would be willing to let me know when/if they release it so I can scoop it from the permit office. I'm already watching the reservation site and don't want to have to rely on a walk-in. Thanks so much!

J, good luck! Unfortunately, when someone releases a permit, it doesn't become available immediately. Recreation.gov makes it available online sometime in the next 24 hours.

So all you can do is keep watching -- set it up as your "home" bookmark, so you can check it often.

I see that there are two single day hike slots online right now, 7/14 and 7/27.

Thanks, Steve. I've got four kids (youngest is six months and still nursing) so I can only go on Sundays in order to be back in time to get the kids ready for camp on Monday. I have a permit for this coming Sunday but my oldest (six-year-old) has a triathlon on Saturday that I don't want to miss. If I can't get a permit for 7/24 then I'll fly myself out afterward on Saturday for a rushed, whirlwind day trip. Long story short: lots of kids, not a lot of time, this is my only sanity in life, would like to enjoy it instead of rush it, and I would be forever grateful to anyone who could add me to their group on 7/24. smile

And I forgot to mention that I'm training for an ultra marathon so any chance I get to train on Whitney is a godsend. Oh, and my third child is named Whitney--that's how much I love that mountain. smile

J, keep watching that link I gave above. I see today (7/14) there is a reservable permit available for 7/16.

Good luck on your training! Hats off to you!
