I am trying to find a nicer hotel for my friend and kids to stay at while my husband and I hike the mountain. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you!

The Comfort Inn has rooms that have a view of Mt Whitney (and they charge for it smile ). So at least they can see where you are.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn with family once. It is a little south of the center of town, and may be the nicest place to stay.

Be sure they drive up to Whitney Portal for a day. It's a great place for kids, with the fishing pond and Whitney Portal Store for hamburgers.

I stayed at the best western. Highly recommended. Staff was very nice froze two bottles of Powerade the day before I hiked Whitney.

I've stayed at both the Comfort Inn and Best Western and I believe their accommodations are very good with friendly and helpful staff.

I stayed at the Best Western last year. It has great reviews and is nice and quiet, comfortable, decent breakfast, etc. I have booked my room for this year as well.

I have stayed at the Dow Villa, Comfort Inn, and the Whitney Portal Hostel. All have nice motel type rooms. Note that the Dow has a modern motel part and a historic hotel part. Some of the historic hotel rooms have the bath down the hall. The Hostel also has motel type rooms with private baths and some rooms with bunk beds for groups of hard core hikers. Lone Pine also has several other basic motels. I have never seen any complaints about any of them.

It is the high season in Lone Pine. Many of these places will be booked especially on weekends. Call soon.

I usually stay at the Best Western. Good-sized rooms, excellent breakfast, and a pool.
