There was an avalanche at Squaw Valley, leaving one dead and two injured.

And unfortunately, close by here on Friday, at the China Peak ski resort, a snowboarder fell into an ungroomed spot (likely the trap under a tree), and suffocated. Head first into a snow pit is an awful way to go. So very sad.

trap under tree is also known as a tree well or spruce trap
