Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Overnight parking at the trailhead

Hi all, I've been lurking on this site for a couple months just learning about other people's experiences, so first of all thank you for all the great info. I have an overnight permit for midweek in July and I'm planning to camp at Whitney Portal for at least a night beforehand, camp at Lone Pine Lake for a night on day 1 of my permit, camp at Trail Camp on night 2, attempt to summit on day 3, camp at Consultation Lake on night 3, and hike out the morning of day 4. I'm planning to leave my car at the trailhead parking or in overflow, but everything I'm seeing suggests parking is pretty tough that time of summer. If, say, my permit is for a Wednesday, do I need to try to find parking super late on Tuesday night, super early on Wednesday, on late in the day on Wednesday? Or just play it by ear? I know I must enter the Whitney Zone on day 1 of my permit, so I'm just wondering what people typically who are stretching out their hike in over a few days typically do. Thank you!!

If all lots are full, you can park along the road. I've never read of anyone having a parking problem.

The only trouble was several years ago when the road was being resurfaced, and no parking along the roadway was allowed.
