In 1999, I took a trip to a gallery in SOUTH Carolina. I had rented a car when I landed in NORTH Carolina, so I had NC license plates. While I was driving near Hilton Head, SC, two very angry looking men in a car pulled up next to Karyn and me and screamed some expletives about us being from North Carolina. After they passed, I said to Karyn, "I wonder what they would have said if they knew we were from California!"

Make that West Bay now rules East Bay (no longer in the shadow of the Oakland As' many world titles). For some reason I always think of Oakland being north of SF instead of to the east. One of those brain cramps that's been with me for years . . .

The only two teams I like are the ones who beat the Yankees and the Giants.

SPOT for the geographically challenged?

Well, give it a couple hundred thousand years and the San Andreas Fault will make SF "north" of Oakland and Oakland will become the West Bay and Sacramento the East bay and Los Angeles will be "south" of Oakland and eventually take over the Frisco spot and then the Baseball Commisioner in the year 200,000 will have to deal with the realignment.
