This
incident occurred on my old stamping grounds. According to an earlier report, a handhold gave way. Yeah, this stuff is sandstone & portable handholds are perfectly normal. And perfectly horrid. Our local Yosemite/Sierra granite is Nirvana. If that is all you have ever climbed on, you might not realize just how wonderful our playground is compared to the rest of the world.
"Anyone venturing out into dense bushland to trek, rock climb, abseil or go canyoning should take a locator beacon with them. They can be obtained from Blue Mountains Police or the National Parks and Wildlife Service," he said. I don't know whether the locator beacon is free, or involves a rental fee. Clearly, the program works - at least if you have a partner or can still activate it.
