Conditions as of June 29, 2012  


Kennedy Meadow-Beck Meadow: -Trail is clear of obstacles. Water is currently available at South Fork Kern River, Clover Meadow, and south end of Beck Meadow.

Beck Meadow to Jct with Olancha Pass Trail: -Trail is passable, some tress down in Cow Canyon. Water is currently available at South Fork Kern River and in Cow Canyon. Water is muddy and at a trickle in upper Cow Canyon.

Olancha Pass to Golden Trout Wilderness Boundary: There are three large trees down before reaching Bear Trap Meadow. These obstacles are hiker and stock passable and crews are now working to remove them. Water is available in Bear Trap Meadow but is at a trickle.

Snow pack for the Kern Plateau for the winter of 2011-12 was approx. 30% of normal. Due to the past winters' conditions, expect creeks and springs to be dry in the near future.

Fire Restrictions are now in effect for Inyo National Forest. Campfires are prohibited Forest wide including the South Sierra, Golden Trout, John Muir and Ansel Adams Wildernesses. Gas stoves only.

You are hiking in bear country. Proper food storage is required. Be familiar with the food storage requirements of the area you are hiking in.
