We are planning to be out May 18-22 for a 2nd time up the Mountaineers Route, and our AirBnB host just contacted me to cancel our stay due to a "new Inyo ordinance" regarding Airbnb style house rentals. I don't see any news about this on the Inyo County Website, but am concerned as I am in the need to quickly try and find lodging! I would hate to have another option disappear in the days before we fly out. Has anyone locally heard about a new ordinance regarding lodging rentals?
We are coming out with our 2 toddlers and my sister (who will watch them while my wife and I are on the mountain), so a house is better than a hotel room (though we loved staying at the portal hostel in the past!). Or if anyone has an idea of another cabin type lodging, I would love to know. Thanks!

The short term rental ordinances and documents are for home owners who wish to rent their homes, not for people looking for somewhere to stay.

Do an online search for real estate companies in Inyo County (Lone Pine, Bishop) and enquire with them for homes to rent short term.

Olancha RV Park & Motel has a few rooms left during those dates.

Could try also Delacour Ranch - they have some cabins - not sure what their availability is but their number is 760-264-3213.

Doesn't look like there are any additional hotel rooms available during that time per Hotels.com, Expedia or Orbitz.

Good luck!

Thank you all for the responses. Apparently the ordinance regarded owners of short term rental homes who do not live in the county, and the owner was "busted". What a hassle! We found a house in Inyokern, so it is additional hassle with a longer drive, but crisis averted.

Traveling with kids is rewarding, but hassle...no longer can we just put the seats down in Alabama Hills wink
