That's typical of Spot. If for any reason your tracking transmissions don't get out to a satellite, they don't show up. It could be that there was no satellite in view (you were on a steeper slope, so the entire southern sky was blocked), or your Spot unit slipped into a less sky-oriented position.
The best tracks are generated by gps units that store the data internally.
