I gotta tell you. Saturday it was pretty hot in Lone Pine and not a cloud in site. We left Lone Pine about 3:30 and the weather looked perfect. I don't think there was a chance you would expect it to go from late Spring conditions to Winter conditions in a matter of hours. Even checking the forecasts for the area, I didn't see new snow coming. BUT....that's why you always need to be prepared and check conditions before you go up. I can't imagine that you could have known what it was going to be like while at the portal.
