According to the SAR coordinator we ran into the evening of the 22nd, all the SAR guys were participating in a training exercise in Bishop on the 21st, the evening word got out that we might need help. Because we were well-prepared to spend the night, they decided to mount the search the next morning, the 22nd. That was the day I went back for C's pack, learned that SAR were looking for us, and asked some rangers to phone them to tell them we were OK. I actually passed the SAR team coming out on my way up to Outpost Camp, but was too dim to realize that the strapping guys in matching orange t-shirts WERE the SAR team!

The SAR coordinator told us that they never charge individuals for searches. But Inyo County Search and Rescue accepts donations through this website:
