Eslick, and his 15-year-old son, Nicholas Eslick, held back from the rest of the group and resolved to weather the storm at Trails Camp at the base of the mountain peak, more than 12,000 feet high. While they were setting up camp, two men came down from the summit carrying their 70-year-old father, who was suffering from hypothermia. Eslick said the man was unable to walk or speak coherently.
Ken and Nick Eslick took drastic measures to raise the stricken man's body temperature. The three men slept skin to skin in a single sleeping bag to better exchange body heat.
