Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Ride from Whitney Portal to Onion Valley on July 22nd?

Last year my group of 3 had no problem getting (hitching) rides from the Portal to Lone Pine, and then from Independence to OV, on July 5 (we did the same thru hike you contemplate but earlier in the season). One of our rides was a retired forest service guy who gave me some great tips that turned into a later backpacking trip (Miter Basin).
