Stay at the west end of Long Lake, if you are backpacking. It's sheltered and semi-private.
I love Army Pass...NAP is pretty good, too. Snow is persistent because it on a north wall. I went up in September after a big winter and there was snow in spots on the trail.
I would not be surprised that there was a snow block in July because of the late snow this year.
