I stayed at the Yosemite View Lodge (just outside the park on Hwy 140), so only a 30 minute drive into the park. The only issue was parking near my intended site to take photos (there are literally hundreds sites that would work - so this is also not really a big deal). However, for those of us that hike, this is not really an issue. The sun only lights the falls for 20 minutes (or so) starting at ~ 5:15 PM, so there is much time to park and hike to the intended site. Departing in the chaos of several hundred cars all trying to get out of Dodge is the more difficult issue, but if you are not in a rush not a big deal.

It is really a "festive" event, with much cheering when the Falls turn yellow, gold, and occasionally red.
