The eastside (all the Inyo N.F.) trailheads climb quickly, while the westside (Sequoia/Kings N.P.) are longer and more gradual, but they eventually get to the crest, too.

But Jennifer, most of us live nearly at sea level (I'm at 300'), so you really aren't in a different situation than most. The ticket to acclimatizing is to find a high spot (I always suggest Horseshoe Meadows at 10k), and spend two nights. After that, most people are good to go.
