I have not been to RRC. But years ago, I explored Valley of Fire state park, about an hour north of Las Vegas. Pretty nice red sandstone formations, easy climbing and exploring.
But don't go mid-day when it's hot!!! ...or run on a little more north and swim in Lake Mead.
